"About the year of 1753 Allen Gray an Irishman who married in the State of Maryland at or near Sumersett County moved to North Carolina, Onslow County and brought with him Five sons John, William, married in Maryland and had two sons and two daughters, one son named Whittington, Hughey, Thomas and James (my father) and four daughters Jane, Molley and Sallah. John Gray married a Betsy Delany and had several children. James married the widow Hannah McGrain and her maidon name was Hannah Johnson who had two sons Benajah and James and two daughters Matilday and Syriney. The other brothers died without issue. Jane Gray married John Sallyer and had two daughters Marthey and Susan. Molley married Richard Whitehurst and had four sons Thomas, James, Richard and Nelson and three daughters Polley, Nancy and Ellener. Sallah married a Hosea Barrow and had one daughter Dicey. This is the history of my Father and Grandfathers family according to what is known by me. B. Gray.
and Garrett Johnson my mothers Father was an Englishman a merriner in the British Navy in the French war when Cannady was taken from the French and he married shortly after war to a Molley Richason at or near Baltimore a welch lady and moved to North Carolina Onslow County about the year of 1760 and had three sons Thomas, Charles and Isaac and Four Daughters Rebecca, Hannah, Rachil and Siley. All had children except Rachil who never married. Thomas children all dead or the last son Thomas went to sea and never returned. Charles had two sons Garrett and Charles and two daughters Polley and Hannah. Isaac had two sons Thomas and Charles living and two daughters Betsey and Cassey both married McCains. Rebecca married a William Waldron and has one son of the same name living and one or two daughters. Hannah had one child a girl by McGrain and Four by father James Gray and two by William Roach her last husband Elsey and Cassey. Sarah had one son Frederick and one Daughter Betsy to her husband Joseph Ennett. This is a delineation of both my Grandfathers families according to what is known by me. B. Gray, who was born about 9 oclock Tuesday morning July 11, 1775 and married an Ellenor Warnick (of Irish Parents) the 8 of March, 1808. I now has two Sons and Four daughters.
