Pioneer Lewis Families by Michael L. Cook, Vol. I, P. 702. 1978. Notes for Eleazer Lewis, Jr. Source of Marriage: Fair Haven Church Records, 7th Book, Preston, CT. Early Connecticut marriages Prior to 1800. According to the History of madison County, NY 91872), Eleazer Lewis and his family moved to the town of Augusta, Oneida county, NY, and from there to Vernon, NY; from Vernon they moved to Oneida Castle, NY, where they lived in a block house with the half-breed, Lewis Denny. Eleazer Lewis worked Denny's farm on shares. From there they moved to Quality Hill in 1806 and lived there two years. In 1810 he purchased Lot 78 of the Canastota Trace and a piece of lot 82, and moved into a log house situated where Colonel Lamb lived in 1872. His farm was all woods, with no road leading to it. Eleazer died on the old farm "while the country was still a lowling wilderness straggling with Indians, with bears, wolves and other wild animals as the inhabitants of its dense forests. During his early residence there, much sickness prevailed among the settlers and typhoic fever of the genuine old fashioned , carried off not a few." From "Pioneers of Madison County, NY, by William H. Tuttle Eleazer bought lots 78 and 82 of the Canastota tract on 1806, Juror 1814. School trustee 1820. Reyarww M.E. Church 1825.
