"Eleazer Ballou is the ancestor who assisted in establishing American Independence, while acting in the capacity of Private."
Ancestor's services. . ."in assisting in the establishment of American Independence during the War of the Revolution were as follows: Eleazer Ballou served in the Revolutionary War as a member of Captain David Burlingame's Company of Rhode Island Troops. His name appears on two lists of men of that reg't, dated at Gloucester, March 3125, 1778 and March 12th, 1779 respectively the last mentioned list showing that the company was to meet at the widow Marcy Watterman's in Smithfield on the third Monday in October, completely armed.
