Simon Olufson Brustad, son of medhjelper (pastor's assistant) (72) Oluf Pederson Skouge (the name of the farm is also spelled Skoug, Schoug, Skov) and (73) Ingebor Simonsdatter, was baptized on 5 April 1724. Simon's father died in 1728, so Simon was raised by his mother and stepfather, Lars Nielson, who took over Skouge upon marrying Ingebor in 1731. Simon Olufson was living on Ytre Vansvig on Ascension Day 1749 when he was betrothed to Berit Mogensdatter Barstad, daughter of Mogens Joenson Barstad and Elen Joensdatter. Berit was baptized on Exaudi Sunday (the Sunday after Ascension) 1724. Simon Olson Vansvig (so named in the record, illustrating the shift from Oluf to Ole) and Berit were married on 9 June 1749. They had one child, born on Vansvig: -th Maria, baptized the 16th Sunday after Trinity 1749. Berit's funeral was held on Quasimodogen Sunday (the 1st Sunday after Easter 1751. The parish register states that she was 27 years old and had been married to Simon Olson for two years. On the 15th Sunday after Trinity 1752, Simon Olson, then a widower living on Jonvig, was betrothed to (37) Elen Olsdatter Sandstad, daughter of (74) Oluf Andersen and (75) Siri Nielsdatter, baptized the 24th Sunday after Trinity 1722. They settled on the Myr farm, where their children were born: i. Oluf, baptized on the Feast of St. John Baptist (June 24) 1753. ii, Ole, apparently born early in 1755 but d. y. 18 iii. Ole, baptized the second day of Christmas (December 26) 1755. iv. Niels, baptized 9 January 1759. v. Herman, baptized Sexagesima Sunday 1762, funeral held the 3rd Sunday in Advent 1762. vi. Ingebor, baptized the 6 Sunday after Easter 1765. (undoubtedly named for her recently deceased grandmother, Ingebor Simonsdatter Skouge), died at age 14; her funeral was held Easter Monday 1779. Verification that Simon Olson Myr is the son, Simon Olufson, of Ingebor Simonsdatter Skouge is given by the division of Ingebor's estate on 24 April 1765, as Simon Olsen Myr is named there as one of her children. Between 1765, when Ingebor died, and 1772, when Ole Simonsen Brustad and Ole Simonsen Brustad senior [alias for the oldest son Oluf] were confirmed, Simon and Ingebor moved from Myr to one of the three farms named Brustad. The 1801 census of Ytteroy confirms this relocation: according to that census, two persons named Ole Simonsen Brustad and a Niels Brustad were living on three plots of one of the Brustad farms. They were in their 48th, 46th, and 43rd years respectively. These ages are those of the sons, Oluf, Ole, and Niels. The funeral of Simon Olsen Brustad was held 29 December 1789. The funeral of Elen Olufsdatter Brustad was held 26 August 1797.
