About Elenora Eitnier

Lititz Record, October 6, 1893: Biography of an Octogenarian. Mrs. Elenora Eitnier, widow of the late John Eitnier, of near Brunnerville died at her late residence on Tuesday Sept. 26, 1893. She was well known and highly esteemed by all her friends and acquaintances, and although showing signs of approaching weakness and debility in body and mind for the last few years, with her sunny and cheerful disposition, she was permitted to live to a good old age. She was born in Elizabeth township April 24, 1808, and on June 4th, 1826, she was joined in the bonds of holy wedlock with John Eitnier, who eight years ago preceded her to the better world. The issue of the union was twelve children seven sons and fiye daughters, ol whom five sons and four daughters are still l iv ing. In the sphere of her daily labor and duty she was of a pleasant and cheerful spirit, industrious and frugal in her hah its, and not unmindful of the temporal and eternal interests of her large family of children. In early life she connected herself with Zion's Reformed church at Brickerville, where for many years she was a regular attendant and a faithful and devoted member. It was her greatest pleasure to extend a hearty welcome to the pastor and make him comfortable during his brief stay. And when physically disabled from attending the services of the sanctuary she was ever thankful for the spiritual ministrations that were given, Since the death of her husband she continued to live on the old homestead, and for the last five years her granddaughter, Mrs. Fanny Weidman with her family, lived with her and kindly, steadily and lovingly administered to her many bodily wants. Fortunately her late illness lasted only a few days, On Saturday she was taken with a serious type of dysentery, to which came a stroke of paralysis, ending her life on Tuesday without much suffering or pain, Her funeral took place on Friday of last week, and was attended by a very large concourse of relatives and friends. Brief services were held at the house and the interment at the Brickerville Reformed church. Rev. F. Pilgram officiated, assisted by Elder Risser of the Mennonite church. The funeral text is recorded in Prophecy of Jeremiah, chapter 31:3, " I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee." Mother Eitnier's age was 85 years, 5 months and 2 days, and in her life represented five generations, having had 12 children, 63
