Eli C. Shelby was morn in Mecklenburg County, NC. and was 17 years old when he, his parents and most of his siblings moved from NC to TN. After marrying Rebecca, he and his (then small) family settled into the 7th (now 3rd) civil district of Hardin County. His farm there was near the settlement of Loweryville in the SE part of the shire. It borders White's Creek which was named for his father-in-law.
