Elias Franklin Lacey was born in Pickens County, Alabama on February 4, 1836. He moved while young with his father to Mississippi and settled in McVille, Leake County. He was educated at Planters Academy and served in Company C, 6th Mississippi Regiment, Adams Brigade, Lovings Division, Steward Corps. He married Sarah Louise Grayson in 1869. They made their home in Thomastown, Leake, Mississippi where he had extensive holdings and raised six children.
