About Elias Mann
On March 17, 1938, the sixteen-year-old Elias Mann attacked Miss Eunice Monahan on the Ramapo River bridge as she was returning home from work at the Western Union office in Suffern, NY. Miss Monahan's screams attracted to attention of several passersby who ran to her help, causing Elias Mann to flee. He was arrested the next evening and admitted to attacking Miss Monahan. (The Journal News, March 19, 1939, page 1).
Elias Mann was imprisoned in the New York State Institution for Male Defective Delinquents (now known as Eastern Correctional Facility) in Wawarsing, Ulster County, NY and is found there on the 1940 United States Census. It appears that he was released by 7 Mar 1942, because he is listed on his World War II Draft Card as residing in McGrew, Cortland County, NY, where he was working as a farmhand for John Soshinsky.
