Sharon Herald, September 2, 1887
The tenth annual reunion of the Titus family was held last Saturday at Baker's Grove, a mile east of town, and was much enjoyed by the one hundred and more members of the family and guests who were present.
Propitious weather, plenty of edibles, good speeches and a general feeling of good fellowship made the day pass pleasantly. After an excellent dinner had been partaken of Rev. J.A. Bailey, of this place, made an appropriate speech, and was followed by Mr. Elijah Baker, the historian of the occasion, who read an interesting history of the family.

It is with sincere regret that we announce the death of Mr. Elijah Baker at his home east of town, about four o'clock yesterday morning. It was not generally known that he was seriously ill, perhaps not suspected by himself, yet his friends had noted for the past year or more general breaking down and weakening of his heretofore rugged health and constitution. Elijah Baker was about 74 years old, and was a well known and respected citizen. His habits of reading and observation gave him a wide knowledge of men and events, and there are few men with his advantages of better information. Politically he was a staunch Republican, and served one term as County Commissioner, and almost continuously for years held the township offices of school director, supervisor or clerk, bringing to the discharge of all his duties a sound discretion and judgment. His wife, who surives him is a daughter of Archibald Titus, one of the pioneers of Hickory town. Seven of the children born to them survive him, all grown to manhood and womanhood. These are A I Baker, living near the old homestead; James T Baker, of Brookfield; Joseph Baker, of Rood House, Illinois; Mrs. Thomas a Hanna of Sharon; Mrs. Edward Crawford, Mrs. Charles French, and a daughter at home. His funeral will probably take place on Sunday, dependent upon the arrival of his son Joseph, from Illinois.
Father of Howard, Joseph, James, Archibald, Samuel, Florence, Ida, Edith, Emma & Mary Baker.
