Also known as Eliphas, Eli was in Pendleton District, South Carolina in the 1790, 1800, 1810 and 1820 censuses.

He was in Pickens District, South Carolina in 1830 and his will, which mentions his wife Sarah Davis, daughters Kizziah South, Jane Yow, Frances Hill, Sarah L. Clanahan, Catharine Jeans, son John L. Davis, son-in-law Flemming Thompson and grandsons Eli South, John Lell Thompson and Mead Davis, was written and probated in Pickens District in 1832. Birdwell Hill, the husband of Frances, was named an executor.

Eli’s wife at the time of his death was Sarah L Davis who mentions the graves of her deceased husbands (John Shannon, Sam’l Brown, Ely Davis) in her will (Pickens District SC 1833).

‘In view of the growing population and poor transportation facilities in Pendleton District, the legislature divided it into counties in 1826, and a year later decided instead to divide the area into districts. The legislation went into effect in 1828. The lower part became Anderson and the upper Pickens, named in honor of the Revolutionary soldier, Brigadier General Andrew Pickens, whose home Hopewell was on the southern border of the district.’ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickens_County,_South_Carolina

Eliphas is mentioned in the will of his father Vann Davis (14 April 1810, Pendleton SC).
