Birth

Elisha Lucas was born February 7, 1698/ 1699, in Plympton, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, the son of Benoni Lucas and Repentance (Harlow) Lucas. [1]

Family

On January 10, 1722/ 1723, Elisha married Margaret Shaw, born June 28, 1701, in Plymouth, daughter of Benoni Shaw and Lydia (Waterman) Shaw. [2][3]

Death

Elisha died in Plymouth county, Massachusetts on June 6, 1756 and is buried in the Lakenham Cemetery, in Carver. [6][7]

Probate

The will of Elisha Lucas of Plymouth, yeoman was dated 7 July 1753 and proved on 5 July 1756 in Plymouth. He mentions his wife Margaret, Ruth Lucas, widow of his deceased son James Lucas, Samuel Lucas and James Lucas (sons to his deceased son James), his sons Elkanah Lucas, Benoni Lucas, Elisha Lucas, and his daughters, Elizabeth, wife of Francis Atwood, and Sarah, wife of Bartlett Murdock. [8]

His inventory was taken in Plympton on 10 July 1756.[9]

In 1757, an account of his estate was recorded which included debts paid.[10]

Researcher's Notes

Double years of birth or death are attributed to the Old Style Calendar: Before 1752 the year began on Lady Day, March 25th,. Dates between January 1st and March 24th were at the end of the year. Old Style (O.S.) and New Style (N.S.) are used to indicate whether the year has been adjusted. Often both dates are used.

Elisha's Find A Grave memorial indicates that he was also the father of an Elizabeth Lucas, but gives no dates of birth or death, or further information about that child.
