Baroness Elizabeth Vay de Vaya was born on 13 October 1860 in Hungary as the third child of Bella Vay de Vaya and Zsófia Teleki de Szék. Because of her lovely dark blue eyes, her parents started calling her Lilla. Elizabeth liked her nickname and soon began signing as Lilla. She was educated in her hometown, Also Zoltza and in Budapest, where she received music lessons. in 1881 although in love with someone else, Lila marries in Budapest a Croatian aristocrat, Count Theodor Pejacevic, who was defending there a law degree at the time. He was her parents' choice. Because Elizabeth was a Protestant, she had to promise, on her wedding, that she would raise their children in the Catholic faith. After the wedding, the young couple comes to live in Nasice. When she saw Nasice, she admitted that it was easier for her to accept a marriage. In 1886, Count Teodor Pejačević was elected Mayor of Virovitica and remained in this position for 16 years. Thanks to her husband, Lila is in the highest circles of Croatian society. Receptions, audiences, world life are her daily routine. She loved to read, and was a natural talent for painting and music. Unfortunately, her pictures were not saved. She organized concerts at family gatherings as well as in aristocratic circles at major cultural events. She had a well-trained voice, a dramatic mezzo-soprano. She sang and performed piano works, not only by modern composers of the time, but also by her own. At her initiative, the Red Cross branch in Osijek was opened in 1887 and she was elected president. The family of Theodore, Count Pejačević made a special contribution to the development of schools in Našice. They also provide funds for the construction and maintenance of school buildings and scholarships for excellent students, as well as scholarships (clothing, shoes, textbooks, free food) for underprivileged children in the region. At Lila's charity concerts to which the highest representatives of high society are invited, funds are raised for public kitchens, for poor students, for the local fire company, with Honorary President Count Theodore Pejačević; for a military hospital during WW I. In the last years, Lila's life was marked by a nervous breakdown, and she often spent time in sanatoriums abroad. Lila lost three of her children in a short time. She was very close to her daughter-in-law, Countess Beniczky, and her death particularly affected her. Because Countess Lila Pejacevic was a Protestant and her daughter in-law was Catholic, she asked a Catholic priest to confess her before her death so that she could meet countess Beniczky once again in eternal life. She died on January 14, 1941, at the age of 81, 2 months after her daughter-in-law's death. She was buried in Našice in the family mausoleum with her husband and her children.
