Elisabetta Memmi

The family story was that my grandfather Domenico Memmi and his two siblings were orphaned as children...birth parents were Elisabetta (Alloggia) and Guiseppe Memmi...nothing more was told.

In my research I discovered the original death certificate of Elisabetta Alloggia, my great grandmother. This document was interrupted by my cousin Tom Memmi ..."July 22, 1928, nine o'clock, at the municipal hall. The recorder's name I can't read, but it looks like his title is colonel. Two men are mentioned who witnessed her death at 3:00, at a home in Filetto. It's probably three in the morning, since many Italians use a 24 hour clock - military time. Names are hard to read, but one guy is named Biagio Ciampa, and the other I can only barely comprehend a first name as Vito. Both were farmers, and Vito was from Pescomaggiore, which is just south of Filetto. It mentions her age as 75, and that she was born in Filetto. Then it has both her parents' names, Arcangelo and Rosa, and says they were both from Filetto. It indicated that Giuseppe Memmi was her husband. Finally it states that this act was witnessed by two other men, meaning the act of completing the document. One guys name is Alfonso Carrozzi, and the other has a first name of Giovanni. It states that they are both residents of the municipality. Then it says "having read this act to all present, they have signed." The first two are the witnesses to her death, then the other two witnesses sign, and lastly the author signs last."

Further research Biagio Ciampa who witnessed her death married to Maria Memmi. It appears she had a sister Clotilde Allogia and half brother Gradito Alloggia.
