Elise Ghost

Elsie Jane Kern Ghost, 86, of Connellsville, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Marquis House, Uniontown. She was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late William and Olive Channing Kern. Elsie graduated from Scottdale High School in 1943, and she served and took great pleasure in working on the class reunion planning committee. She also graduated from Franklin Commercial College in Connellsville. Following graduation, she worked for the U.S. government at the Pentagon until 1946. She married Eugene Lloyd Ghost on June 29, 1946, and celebrated 50 years of marriage until his passing in 1996. Elsie was a member of First Baptist Church of Connellsville since 1943. She served on numerous committees, including the planning committee of the church's 200th anniversary celebration and updating the Military Honor Roll. She served as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess and was a member of the choir. She was dedicated to the work of the American Baptist Women and locally held several offices, including president. She had also served as treasurer and then president of the Monongahela Association of American Baptist Women. Elsie was a Paul Harris Fellow and benefactor of the Foundation of Rotary International and a member of the former Wakefield Culture Club. She is survived by her children, Marcia J. Mountan and her husband, Herbert, of Connellsville, Mark A. Ghost and his wife, Cynthia, of Connellsville, and Pamela S. Ghost, of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Brian Wilhelm, Marissa Ghost Buttner, Bethani Thomas, Nathan Mountan, Kevin Ghost, Taylor Ghost Garrison, Kylene Clickner and Andrew Clickner; three great-grandchildren, Abigail Mountan, Gavin Mountan and Abraham Philip Buttner; a brother, William L. Kern and his wife, Clara Lou, of Greensburg; a niece; and a nephew. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Eugene L. Ghost, in July 1996; a son, Philip L. Ghost, in November 1990; and a brother, Alfred Zane Kern, in January 1931. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Will Hough officiating. Interment will follow in Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery, Mill Run.
