Elisha was a farmer living on the east slope of "the mountain" in Turkey Hills parish in the (then) town of Simbsury, Ct. Thi part of the town has since been erected into the town of East Granby. In the early part of 1789 his sons Eluhi and Pierce, inspired by the excitement in the neighborhood growing out of the land speculations in central New York of their neighbor Oliver Phelps of Suffield, went through the wilderness to prepare a new home at what is now Phelps, NY. (See Elihu.) Elisha accompanied his boys, but returned to Turkey Hills in the autumn. In 1797 he finally removed to Phelps and resided there till his death. He is buried in the old burying ground at that place.
