Biography

When Elisha Holmes Jr. was born on 19 January 1698, in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America, his father, Elisha Holmes Sr., was 27 and his mother, Sarah Bartlett, was 22. He married Sarah Bartlett on 16 February 1721, in Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 7 July 1779, in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States, at the age of 81.

Deacon Elisha Holmes was born on 19 Jan 1698 in Massachusetts Bay and died 7 Jul 1779 in Massachusetts, USA[1]. He was the son of Elisha Holmes Sr., and Sarah Bartlett.

He first married Sarah Bartlett on 16 February 1721, in Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America. She was the daughter of Samuel Bartlett and Hannah Pabodie.

Elisha and Sarah (Bartlett) Holmes had the following (9) children:[3]

2. Sarah, born 28 August 1724
3. Susanna, born 18 November 1726; possibly married Ebenezer Holmes
4. [son], died young
5. Nathaniel, born 6 July 1730
6. Elisha, born 4 September 1732
7. Betty, born 16 January 1734/5
8. [daughter], died young
9. [daughter], died young

Sarah died on 4 July 1738, in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States, at the age of 36.

Elisha married again:

"August 9th 1739. Then Elisha homes of Plimouth & Mary Ellis of Sanwich were Married by mr Benjamin Fessenden Minister at Sandwich."[2]

Elisha and Mary (Fish) (Ellis) Holmes had the following (5) children:[4]

2. Mary, born 3 August 1741; died 9 December 1741
3. Mary, born 13 August 1742
4. Bartlett, born 2 April 1744
5. Ellis, born 1747

Probate

The will of Elisha Holmes of Plymouth, yeoman was dated and proved on He mentions his wife Mary, and his three surviving sons, Elisha (executor), Bartlett (executor), and Ellis (executor), his three surviving daughters, Sarah, Betty, and Mary, the heirs of deceased son Samuel, the heirs of his deceased son Nathaniel, and the heirs of his deceased daughter, Jerusha.[5]

His inventory was taken on 20 July 1779 in Plymouth.[6]
