Death record source: West Avon church records, vol 3, p.75 (State Library); aged 75 at death - puts birth in the 1728/9 range. Referred to as "of Farmington" in several records - the family farm was on Talcott Mountain, which was part of Farmington legally but West Hartford for church purposes; 1790 census: Farmington, 3 in household (vol 1, p.148, #42). Baptismal source: West Hartford church records, vol 1, p.32 (State Library). Recorded - "o.c. Dec 3, 1758" - West Hartford, vol 1, p.101 (Rachel's baptism). Sold 4.5 acres with buildings (residence and barns) 13Mar1797 to Horace and Theron Wells; dwelling was on Farmington/Hartford line, on the northerly/left side of what is now Rte 44 (heading from Farmington/Avon to Hartford), bounded by heirs of Thomas Wells (N), heirs of Moses Merrill (W), Elisha Wells Jr (S), and highway (E). Both he and his son, Elisha Jr, are enumerated as residents of "Farmington" in 1800 census. Surname also denoted variously as "Welles".
