"5.0 out of 5 stars An account of life and youth in Israel. Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2007 With His Own Hands is an account of the short, eventful life, of Moshe Shamir's brother Eli, from his childhood to his murder by Arab marauders. He was leading a group of Hagana defenders of an aid convoy to besieged Jersualem when their pickup truck hit a mine. There Elik led a desperate defence against the attackers and fell fighting, one among thousands of young Jews who lost their lives fighting for their homeland against the Arab agressors who had vowed to anihilate all Jews in the Holy Land. It is an account of life and youth in Israel, under the bright light of it's sun, like plants that seed and grow with a life of their own in their own enviroment. Elik grows up under the guidance of wise parents in a seafront apartment in Tel Aviv, and grows up as a natural leader, mature yet mischievous , the idol of the kids on his street. Before he can absorb life to it's full, and excited by the love of a beautiful young girl, his life is cut short by the Arab machine of death."
