Mrs. Finch was a daughter of William Castle, Sr. and was born in Mississippi (1827- 1911). She became a widow at the age of thirty-seven with six children, and the oldest child was sixteen years of age at the time of her husband's death. She remained a widow for forty-eight years following her husband, John Wes...ley Finch who died of measles and pneumonia in Selma, Alabama, during the Civil War. Mr. Finch is buried in Selma. After the war ended Mrs. Finch sent one of her sons to Selma to locate his father's grave, and had planned to bring his body to North Union Cemetery. The soldiers graves were only marked with pieces of white granite and no names on them. She has a double marker at North Union Cemetery and it states Mr. Finch is buried in Selma, Alabama.
A spinster daughter, Jody, cared for her and they lived in the home of a couple of sons. She was a very courageous lady. More details in the Finch family history. by Rachel Mitchell
