About Eliza Rocksina Murdock
"AUNT SINA" BROWN AT REST
This week marks the passing of one of the most patient sufferers it has ever been the lot of Wasatch County people to know – Mrs. Elisa Brown or "Aunt Sina" as she was familiarly called passed away last Monday night following an illness of a score of years and during nearly seventeen of which she has been confined to her bed because of rheumatic troubles. During all that time she has had a smile and has been a source of strength to the many who have called at her home. More frequently than not, those who called to comfort her in her affliction came away themselves comforted and more thankful for the blessings of life than they had previously been. Though her body was racked and twisted with pain she never murmured. And, be it said also that her good husband, Isaac N. Brown, is deserving of much credit for the unwavering and devoted attention manifest in behalf of his life's companion through all their affliction.
When about six years of age Mrs. Brown and her eight year old brother Thomas Murdock began making their home with Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Murdock and she remained with them until the time of her marriage, since which time she has considered to reside in Charleston. She leaving her husband, one brother, two sisters and the following named children to bless her name: Mrs. Amy Korth of Brigham City, Mrs. Sadie Cummings of Park City, Mrs. Ester Horner and Mrs. Avis Fisher of Heber, George W. Brown of California and J. S. Brown of Charleston. Three children preceded her to the great beyond.
Funeral services in her honor were held in the Charleston ward house yesterday afternoon, with Bishop John M. Ritchie conducting the exercises. The opening prayer was offered by W. N. Casper. Music was furnished by the ward choir and by a quartet. The speakers were Wm. Daybell, A. Y. Duke, D. A. Broadbent, and Bishop J. M. Ritchie, all of whom spoke in terms of highest praise of "Aunt Sina." The benediction was pronounced by Mark Jeffs. As a mark of highest esteem the house was crowded with friends of the departed.
