About Eliza Lea Williams, Free Settler "Ganges" 1841

Lea was converted to Christianity by Joseph Wolff as a teenager and married Thomas Williams one of Joseph's companions. Thomas Williams was a nephew of one of Wolff's supporters Professor Samuel Lee. They fled Palestine and settled in with other family members in county Wicklow Ireland. Sometime between 1828-1831 she and her husband and family returned to Israel and settled in Safed (Tzfart). After the Earthquake of 1837 they returned to Ireland. She used the surnames Leason, Pollard and Segal. She is believed to have had red hair.
