GEDCOM Note
Did you know that the Town of Stillwater made a resolution in July 2017 to change the name of Duell Road to Abel Road in that town? There evidently were two roads with the name of Duell and it was altered to reduce confusion of emergency personnel. The name of Abel Road was chosen to honor Elizabeth Abel who served as Stillwater Town Historian from 1971 to 1995. Elizabeth (Farrington) Abel (1915-2000) was the wife of Carlton Donald Abel who was a descendant of Isaac Bloom Baker the 8th son of James Baker. Elizabeth worked in the law office of Arthur Vinette as a senior in high school. She worked for Judge Howard Reilly in Mechanicville and was the Mechanicville City Court Clerk for more than 25 years. She was also the Stillwater correspondent for the newspaper, The Saratogian, for many years. Elizabeth served as Historian for the Baker Family Association from 1957 to 1964 and from 1982 to 1986. She was descended from the 17th century Van Vrankens who were early settlers of southern Saratoga Co., NY.
