Elizabeth Amy Hornibrook

Born in Malta on 18 May 1868. Baptized 13 June 1868 at Floriana on the Island of Malta. Her father was transferred from Curragh Military Camp in County Kildare Ireland, in 1868. 1872 Family left for Gibraltar. 1874 Family left Gibraltar for Cape Town. 1875 They arrived in Cape Town on 1st January and went to Wynberg Military Camp. 1876 Her mother died in March at the Coghill Hotel in Wynberg at age of 30. Amy was nearly 7 years old. Her brother Francis was 9,and her younger brother William was 5. The children were handed over to a foster mother - a wife of a soldier. 1877 The family was sent with the 24th Regiment to King William's Town. Her father went to serve in Galeka war then left for Zululand. The family then returned to cape Town. 1878 Her father was killed in Battle of Isandhlwana/Rorkes Drift in Zululand. 1891 At the age of 23, she married Sergeant William Lawrance on 19th March at st John's Church Wynberg Cape Town South Africa. 1892 Her son William Hornibrook was born on 7th April in Wynberg. Probably at Wynberg Military Hospital. 1893 Her husband was transferred from Army to Reserves under Cape Colony. 1894 Her daughter Ethel Amy Florence was born on 23 March in Malmesbury. From 1895 -1897 her husband managed the Criterion Hotel in Malmesbury. 1895 Her daughter Phyllis Maud Annie was born on 15 August in Malmesbury. 1897 Her daughter May Elizabeth was born in Port Elizabeth on 12 October. 1898 Her daughter May Elizabeth died on 22 January. 1901 They lived in Clanwilliam 1902 They moved to Cape Town. 1914 Her husband Captain William Henry Lawrance died in Woodstock Cottage Hospital in Cape Town at age 50. 1925 She died on 13 October at age of 57.
