About Elizabeth Andrews
"THE VISITATION OF NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, 1564" / "Andrewes of Blisworth"
THOMAS ANDREWS of Charwelton, co. North'ton, Gent., eldest son and heir to John, first mar. and had issue, -- THOMAS, his eldest son; -- after, he mar., to his second wife, ELIZABETH, da. of Sir Thomas Powltney of Misterton, co. Leic., Esq., and by her had issue, -- Thomas, his second son; Anthony, third son; Anthony, fourth son. (Sic, but query a generation missed. See the other pedigrees of this family.)
COMMENTARY -- The express purpose of "visitations" in the sixteenth century was to establish the bona fides of families representing themselves as gentry or nobility. As data for the various Andrews in the fifteenth and sixteenth century is derived from the first two pages of "The Visitation of Northamptonshire, 1564", perhaps the visitants should have done a bit of proof reading before publishing the results. Thomas Andrews of Charwelton is referenced on page 1 of "Visitation" in the "Andrew of Charwelton" section as the great grandson of Thomas Andrew of Sawbridge, Gent. and Joan Clarell and wife of Emma Knightley of Fawsley, Northampton. Notably, no reference is made to his second marriage to Elizabeth Powltney / Poultney following the death of Emma in 1490.......That the Thomas Andrews of Charwelton, Gent. referenced in the "Andrewes of Blisworth" section on page 2 of "Visitation" is one and the same person is evident. One notes, however, that the "visitants" erroneously attributed his paternity to "John" Andrews.
