Mr. Stanly left one daughter, who married Walker K. Armstead, then an officer in the United States army, against Mr. Stanly's wishes. Mr. Stanly says he never forgave her. When this worthy officer attained rank and distinction, in her old age Mrs. Stanly found a home under his hospitable roof, where she died. Mr. Stanly also died under General Armstead's roof.

In July 1850 Elizabeth was a widow living in Fauquier County, VA, with real estate holdings totaling $12,000. Living with her were daughters Betty (23) and Virginia (21); sons Francis (15) and Bowles (12); grandchildren Joseph (14), Cornelia (13), Mary C. (11), and Ella Carr (8).

In 1860, enumerated with Elizabeth were: daughter Bettie F.; son Walker Keith; son Major Lewis A. Armistead, who had been widowed twice; grandchildren Cornelia A. Carr, Mary C. Carr, and Bessie Rossner (9); Mary L. Eliassen (54); Harriet Eliassen (30).
