Also known as Lizzie Barry. She died 5 days short of 100. Her favourite game was a 110 (card game) and her favourite food was goose. She visited New York in the time of Prohibition (1920s) to visit her brother who was doing well in the construction business. During a late night shoot out an innocent man was killed. A policeman took the contents from his pockets to try and identify him. He brought his belongings home with him as the station was closed. His wife found the items on the kitchen table and going through them found a picture of Lizzie Barry. She asked " Why does this man have a photos of Lizzie Barry with him?"
She had a shop in Middleton Cork. Called "Barry's"? This was her livelihood. Sent her children to university. Claire had medals from their dancing days. Great dancers. Molly was a primary school teacher. She was the principal of her school the Model School - all irish - when she was married. Teaching when Pat Byrne was a small child. Maura McGee (Claires dentis) went to school with her.
Molly was jailed for being in Cumman na mBan. Was released on demand of Lizzie Barry.
2 sons Chris and Mike were chased by Black and Tans. Ran to their own house. Black and Tans came into the house to search but boys hid in the ivy and were undiscovered.
Brothers Chris and Michael fought on both sides of the civil war.
