Re: Nathaniel Bell Jr. of Johnson County, Indiana and Virginia Jan Michel (View posts) Posted:11 Feb 2003 1:43AM GMT Classification: Query Surnames: I come from the Nathaniel III (Benjamin's son) line. I too start at Nathaniel T. (#1). His son was Nathaniel II and then Benjamin's son (N2's nephew) was Nathaniel III. Actually, not all of my sources show numbers; I think we've added them to help sort everyone out. From Benjamin and Elizabeth Enoch, I show 9 children: Henry, Benjamin, Isaac, Amy, Sarah, Elizabeth, Nancy, Jane, and (my) Nathaniel. He was born 1-15-1807;Monroe Co. Indiana, and died 2-7-1881 Wapello, Ouisa, Iowa; buried in Ottumwa, Iowa Burns Cemetary. He married 3-17-1825 Celia Wright (B. 6-17-1805,Randolph County, NC, d. 1-10-1876);her parents were Benjamin & Patsey Wright. Their children: Martha J. (married Alfred m. Hawkins), Elizabeth C. (married Thomas Burns Jr.), Lucy Ann (married Thomas P. Griffith), Adam Wright (married Nancy Goodwin), Minerva "Sarah" (married Jarth Temple Harris), Nancy Bell(married?), Benjamin Franklin Bell (married Harriet Isabell Williams), Thomas Jefferson Bell - my great-grandfather - (married Mary Jane Moore), Ciersa "C.C." Celia (married Lewis Gregory Rector), and Ellen Judis Bell (married?) I also have the Thomas Jefferson (T.J.) Bell line (mine)if you're interested. Now, on the Enoch side: Elizabeth Enoch married Benjamin Bell in 1788 - I've got a few generations before: Henry Enoch (I) was born aft 1696; married Elizabeth Ross. They had Henry II b. 5-12-1732; d.7-14-1797 Washington Co. PA.Other children include: Enoch Enoch, David, Mary (m. Isaac Cox), Sarah(m. Gabriel Cox), and other children might include John and Daniel Sr. Henry married Sarah Enoch (daughter of Andrew Enoch and Catherine Jones) abt. 1746. (a cousin?) They had: Armanella Enoch (married Jeremiah Sargents), Nancy (married Hugh Craig), Henry b.1748, d. 1825, Isaac b. 1752, d. 1858 in Newark WVA, Ann b. 1760 m. Patrick Galloway, William b. 1762 in Hampshire Co. VA, d. Springfield OH, Hannah b. abt 1766, d. 8-24-1846 m. Thomas Pribble 1786, Elizabeth b. 1770 Washington Co, PA, d. bef 1850 in IN, m. Benjamin Bell 1788, Abram b. 1773, d. 1794. Henry Enoch the first, had a buddy - George Washington, who surveyed his land and used to stop by to visit. GW, then president of the Council of War held at Fort Cumberland on July 10, 1756 set out to build a chain of forts for the protection of the frontier - to begin at Henry Enoch's on Great Cacapon...during the French/Indian war, Henry's fort was burned and the settlers headed to the neighbors: Fort Edwards. (that fort is now a museum) Henry's name pops up in many sources during that time. Henry II inherited the property and when he died, it was Benjamin Bell (his son-in-law) who then handled the estate. The first Henry Enoch's family was the first to settle the west side of the Monogahela River in the Tenmile County (approx. 1770). There's a book: The Tenmile Country and Its Pioneer Families - A Genealogical History of the Upper Monogahela Valley by Howard L. Leckey from which I got some of this. Sorry, nothing yet on Hannah Clark's family; but the Enoch clan was quite fun to learn about! So which line is yours? Jan............ ·
