About Elizabeth Berg
Siblings: Friedrich Neumüller, Christian (Christ) Neumiller, Gust Neumiller, Katherine Pfaff (born Neumiller), Emily Wagner (born Neumiller), Fredrick J Neumiller, Simon Herr
Elizabeth came from New Berlin, South Russia to the United States at the age of 18 years. Her parents settled in the Mercer, ND area. When Christ married Elizabeth in 1908, he had a small house, barn, and a well in the middle of the yard. They struggled together through many cold, rough winters and hard working days. There were good years and there were poor, but through faith and labor they raised the family and improved the homestead.
As the children grew up and helped along with the work and planning, more land was bought and more buildings were added to the farm. 1952 A bigger house was moved into place, and more work was added to everyone's chores. Christ bought the Lutgen's house and when they prepared to move it no jacks would lift up to get the house on the moving timbers. It was discovered that the walls were filled with sand! (this shows the ingenuity of our pioneers, a fine method of insulation from the cold.) It took 32 horses to move the house! The children worked right along with their parents, until, one by one they decided that they would like to have a home of their own.
Christ and Elizabeth were active in their country church, charter members of the Evangelical Church near their home. Many happy hours were spent in the Church and its service. Christ served on the school board for several years. They lived on the farm until retirement in the fall of 1944. They moved to Bismarck for another 31 years. In November of 1973 they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in Wing with old friends and family.
