Notes

Elizabeth Maynard was born on 2 April 1664 at Marlborough, MA; under the name Mainord.2,3 She was the daughter of John Maynard and Mary Gates. Elizabeth Maynard married Capt Nathan Brigham, son of Thomas Brigham and Mary Rice, circa 1690 at Marlborough, MA; (your authors note that the 1664 marriage date cited in Supplement 1 is actually Elizabeth's birth date. There is no record of the marriage in the Marlborough VR).4 Elizabeth Maynard died on 29 March 1733 at Marlborough, MA; aged 69 years less four days, under the name Brigham.

Regarding the wife of Nathan Brigham, I am convinced she was Elizabet Maynard, not Elizabeth Howe.

ii. Capt Nathan was born on 17 June 1671.107,101,106 He married Elizabeth How, daughter of Isaac How and Frances Woods, your authors note that this is a very unlikely marriage. Regrettably there is no marriage in the Marlborough vital records for Nathan Brigham. However, the death information about Nathan's wife Elizabeth correlates with the birth record for Elizabeth Maynard.108 He married Elizabeth Maynard, daughter of John Maynard and Mary Gates, circa 1690 at Marlborough, Middlesex Co, MA, Elizabeth's death record suggests that 2 April 1664 is her birth date. The marriage (2 April 1664) date cited in Sup 1 is in error. There is no record of the marriage in the Marlborough VR.109,110 He died on 16 February 1746/47 at Marlborough, Middlesex Co, MA.108,110 Your authors have attempted to verify the marriages to both Elizabeth How and Elizabeth Maynard. Ward lists one set of parents and Sup 1 lists another set so they are not the same person. Your authors have checked the VR of Marlborough, Westborough, and Sudbury - no marriage record. The death record for Elizabeth Brigham, wife of Capt. Nathan Brigham includes the remark: "age 69 lacking 4 days." Subtracting this from her death date gives the precise birth date for Elizabeth Maynard as listed in the Marlborough vital records. We can conclude that Elizabeth Maynard was a wife of Nathan Brigham.108,109"
