From Kathleen Butt Michal: In Williamsburg, VA where there is a large decorative arts museum, the DeWitt Wallace Gallery. There an old sampler is on display, stitched by "Sarah Bruce Butt".She sent for data regarding this from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. There was a family tree marked on the back of the sampler: Robert Butt, Sr. of the southern branch of the Elizabeth River in Lower Norfolk County, VA of Blacksworthy Plantation, b. 1615/20 d. 1676 married ca 1643 Elizabeth Jane Ann Bruce, known as Jane, of Earlshall Castle, Fife Scotland.They were the 4th Great Grandparents of the stitcher. The panelled rooms contain fine furniture and porcelin, and one of the world's largest collections of Scottish armour.
