He was probably the grandson of Richard Clark of Hingham, whose will dated 20 August 1557 mentions a wife Margaret and children John, Thomas (relationship not specified but assumed to be son), Margery and Joan. He was probably the great grandson of Richard Clark, as Thomas Clark's will mentions a tenement which was formerly his grandfather Richard Clark's
