About Elizabeth Trotter Cocke
Elizabeth Trotter (Pope) Cocke was the daughter of the Hon. John Pope and Elizabeth (Johnson) Pope. Her mother was the siter of Katherine (John) Adams, sixth President of the United States. Her father served as the Territorial Governor of Arkansas, from 1829-1835, during the administration of President Andrew Jackson.
When Elizabeth (Pope) Cocke was five years old, her widowed father married Frances (Watkins) Walton, widow of General Matthew Walton, founder of Springfield and one of the largest landholders in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Her cause of death is not listed on page 126 of St. Rose Sacramental Register I. It says that Mrs. Cocke and child (Mary) were buried at St. Rose on May 8, 1835.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jul 14 2019, 19:12:05 UTC
