Elizabeth came to Cape Town as an indentured housemaid. Lewis wrote a letter to the authorities asking for permission to wed. Her employers charged her with absconding from their service.
After Lewis died she married John Anson, who also died young. In 1832 when she was only 26 she was mother to a huge family of orphans.
At the marriage of John and Elizabeth their witnesses were Richard Wilson and Elizabeth Black. Elizabeth Black is listed with Nightingales Party: William Black 32. Lincolnshire farmer. Wife Elizabeth 22 Child Elizabeth Black 1
