John Davis III was born in 1681 in Christ Church, Middlesex County, Virginia. He was known as "The Welchman."[1] [2] "Thomas Sone of Jno. & Sarah Davis bap at ye Upper Chap 16th of Octob."[3]
According to records, John married twice. First to Catherine Ragland, in 1696. His second marriage was to Elizabeth Powell, in 1707. Catherine died in 1703, four years later John married Elizabeth Powell. In his 1st marriage to Catherine Ragland, they had one child, Rev. William Davis.
In his 2nd marriage, to Elizabeth Powell, they had 10 children. John died in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, in 1734.[4]
