Cicely Downing

Not the same as Elizabeth Downing and not the wife of Geoffrey Downing, Gent.

Family

"GEORGE(C) DOWNING, was born say 1525. He lived in Beccles, Suffolk, England, at the time of the writing of his will on 20 December 1561, and his wife was CICELY (____) . Probably he was born elsewhere than Beccles, because no Downing who might have been his father appears in the 1524 Subsidy of the town. His will was proved on 26 June 1564. Because the Beccles parish registers are extant only from 1586, George's probable burial there cannot be checked. If his children were baptized in Beccles, these events also cannot be verified. He named wife Cicely as executrix of his will, and she served in this capacity. Whether she died as his widow or remarried has not been ascertained. As Cicely Downing, she does not appear in the 1568 Subsidy of Suffolk." Her maiden name has not been discovered. The parents of George (C) Downing are unknown.

St. Stephen's Walbrook, London, 5 Dec. 1616 as "Barnaby Downinge, of Suffolke, in the churcheyearde;"28 probably m. Badwell Ash, Suffolk, 15 April 1583, AMY SMITH 29 (no children for Barnaby Downing appear in the Badwell Ash registers).
2. JOHN DOWNING, b. say 1548; named as under 25 in his father's 1561 will.
3. MARGARET DOWNING, b. say 1550; named as under 21 in her father's 1561 will.
4. GEORGE(B) DOWNING, b. say 1552; named as under 25 in his father's 1561 will; m.(_______) (BELLAMY?).
5. WILLIAM DOWNING, b. say 1554; named as under 21 in his father's 1561 will.
