(Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society), 162:164-73., 2008. SAMUEL1ALLEN, merchant, born either about 1643 (aged 30 in marriage license) or about 1635 (aged 70 at death in 1705). He married at London with license dated 2 January 1672/3 ELIZABETH1 DOWSE aged 19 (see note). He died at Newcastle, New Hampshire, on 5 May 1705. Elizabeth (Dowse) Allen died before 30 September 1708 at Charlestown, Massachusetts. The author provides several generations of her family. link

The spelling of the family name varies from Dows to Dowse. Even members of the same family sometimes used the Dows spelling, while others added the "e."
