Biography

Elizabeth Field was born at Bridgewater, Massachusetts on November 17, 1673, daughter of John Field and Elizabeth Everden. [1] [2]

Elizabeth married Clement Briggs III of North Purchase on November 3, 1697. [3] [2] Her husband Clement was born before 1670. son of Clement Briggs and Hannah Packard. His father died in November, 1669. [4]

On June 6, 1720, Clement Briggs Jr. was appointed administrator of the estate of his father Clement who died intestate at Taunton, Massachusetts. The inventory of the estate of Clement Briggs was taken on February 3. 1720/1. On March 6, 1721, the court ordered a division of the real estate, moveable goods, etc, and later in October, 1722, a distribution of the remaining estate among his children. Those names in the division and distributions of the estate were: [5]

It's likely that Elizabeth died prior to June, 1720 and there is no mention of a widow in the probate papers of Clement Briggs Sr. [5]

On July 13, 1720, a guardian was appointed for the brothers and sister of Clement Briggs :

John Briggs, minor over the age of 14 years
Lydia Briggs, minor uner the age of 15 years [6]
John Selee was appointed administrator of the estate of Clement Brigg's Jr. in March 1724/5. On July 13, 1726, son Clement Jr.'s estate was ordered to be distributed among his survivng siblings:

On April 19, 1727 the court ordered the estate of John Brigg's, a minor, late of Easton be distributed among his siblings. [8]

On January 13, 1745, John Asten, John Sille and Lydia Briggs, spinster, were appointed administrators of the estate of Zachariah Briggs of Easton, who died intestate. The court ordered a division of his estate among his sisters. [9]

On September 10, 1746, Thomas ?Grake/Drake and John ?Asten, husbands of two of the heirs of Zachariah Briggs, submitted their acceptance and approval of the distribution of Zachariah's estate. [9]
