About Elizabeth Fowke

Her Father's Last Will and Testament
John Dinwoodie (aka John Dinwoodie) made his last will and testament at Glasgow in Lanarkshire, Scotland, on 24 February 1725, and died before 28 June 1726. In this document he identifies himself as follows: "John Dinwoodie of Hannover parroch in King George's Countie Rapanhanick River in Virginia ..... lately come from there where my family resides to Glasgow the place of my nativity". The main beneficiaries of his will were his children: "Elizabeth and Jean Dinwiddies my lawful daughters procreat betwixt me and Rose Masson my spouse" although he made provision for any other child that might have been born after his departure from Virginia in September 1724. In the event that a male child was born, it was to receive one half of all his property in Virginia, but in the case of a female child, his possessions were to be divided equally between his three daughters. He appointed his brothers, Robert Dinwiddie, and Lawrence Dinwiddie, both merchants, and his brother-in-law, John Baird, merchant in Glasgow, to be the sole executors and intromitters with his whole effects, as also to be: "tutors guardians and curators" to his children.
