Elizabeth Josette Girardin

Elizabeth was a school teacher. She lived with her mother, Emilie Dubois Girardin. When Emilie's father, Joseph E. Girardin died her mother married again a man named Rufus Schermerhorn.

I have a 2nd edition book that once belonged to Elizabeth. It is called The Legends of le Detroit. She signed her name at the back of the book and it reads:

Elizabeth Josette de Girardin, daughter of Joseph Lezear Girardin and Emilie Dubois. In the front of the book appears her name again and it reads Xmas 1901. The book is in a very fragile state so it must have been read often. The book speaks about her family.

Elizabeth died of colon cancer, general perontonitis following resection of colon for carcinoma. Buried at Mt. Elliott Cemetery in Detroit. Informant Mrs. R. Rousseau.

In January 1898 she was living in Rochester with her mother and Rufus at Wood Dawn which was a 42 room octagon home. She was visiting her sister, Mrs. Lillian Vhay.
