Elizabeth Habing passes away

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Habing, 92, of Teutopolis passed away at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at her home.

Mrs. Habing was born August 18, 1913, in rural Effingham-(Green Creek), the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Schmidt) Hoene. She married John B. Habing October 14, 1933. He died in 1978.

She was a homemaker and her and her husband owned Habing's D-X Car Sales and Service in Teutopolis for 30 years. Until age 80, she spent many hours each week working at her church, cleaning and keeping it beautiful. She was a. member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis and St Francis Council of Catholic Women.

Surviving are her son, Cletus of Effingham; daughters, Martha (husband, Charles) Stevens of Teutopolis, Alice (husband, Philip) Conlin of Effingham; two sisters, Sr Henrietta Habing, SSND, of St.. ' .Louis, Missouri, Bertha Kopczynski of Cottonwood, Idaho; eighteen, grandchildren, Tim, Kevin, Tony and Jon Stevens, Lisa Carlson, Nancy-Martin, Laura Hardiek, John and Bob Habing, Deborah Hossley, Karen-Current, Chuck, Ted and Doug Habing, Ryan, Patrick. Michael and' Kimberly Conlin. She also leaves 27 great-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Donald, grandson-in-law, Blair Carlson, two brothers Herman and Henry Hoene, and two sisters, Celia Nieman and Christine Habing.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in the parish cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Francis of Assisi ' Catholic Church, with a7 p.m. prayer service.
