Elizabeth (WRIGHT) Jenkins died of cholera that was going around the area and the steam boat they were traveling on which was taking them to begin their trek to the Rocky Mountains. some of the cholera victims were buried in the Missouri River, but Elizabeth's husband, John, decided to wait, along with some others, to bury his wife on land in a grove of trees near the river (probably Mormon Grove) which was the outfitting point for the Mormon pioneers in the year 1855.
