"Betsy Martin was my cousin", said John Franklin Hardcastle per the 1888 deposition. Later in deposition he says Betsy Martin's mother's name was Peggy Martin, "my aunt." Peggy is usually short for Margaret, hence Hardcastle refers to Margaret Martin, nee Hardcastle -- his aunt, the sister of his father.
