8 Aug 1832: Zachariah Lacey of Weston, aged 77, enlisted 1776 in Capt. Samuel Wakeman's Co. of Fairfield for 4 mos. In June 1776 he enlisted in Fairfield as Corp. in Capt. George Benjamin's Co, State Troops, at solicitation of Josiah Lacey who was lt. in the Co., for 6 mos. Went to New York and was dismissed at North Castle, NY. In spring 1777, he belonged to militia in parish of Stratfield under Capt. Sterling for 9 mos. as Corp., and had charge of Guard stationed at Fairfield beach. Served 3 days as volunteer when the British burned the military stores at Danbury. Was in the battle of Ridgefield and was a volunteer for 3 days when Fairfield was burned. Born in Weston, 15 Nov. 1754. (Weston set off from town of Fairfield). Birth recorded by his father. he always lived in Weston.

Joseph F. Brothwell of Woodbury deposed an acquaintance with Zachariah Lacey since 1765 or earlier. Before 1776 we were journeyman shoemakers and worked in same shop. About 20 June, 1776, Zachariah Lacey enlisted at the house of Benjamin Lacey for army service at solicitation of Lt. Josiah Lacey. Deponent went with Zachariah Lacey and they were dismissed on Christmas Day, 1776.

James R. French of Bridgeport enlisted with Zachariah Lacey in same Co., etc. Jan 1776 under Capt. Benjamin.

8 Aug 1832. John Beardslee of Bridgeport deposed. Resided in Westport and joined Capt. George Benjamin's Co. for 6 mos, June 1776. Zachariah Lacey also enlisted and served as Corp., etc.

20 Aug 1838. Betty Lacey of Weston, aged 78 years, widow of Zachariah who died 22 Oct 1837 at Weston. Married 16 Dec 1779, Stratfield Parish, by Rev. Robt. Ross. has record in Family Bible.

No records of marriage on books during the long pastorate of Rev. Robt. Ross, 175401798. Certified by Isaac Sherman, clerk of Cong. Church.

Jesse Lacey of Weston, aged 48, son of Zachariah and Betty Lacey. Betty lives in his family and they have the book containing the original record of marriage. Maiden Name Betty Rowland. Marrie d16 Dec 1779. Zachariah Lacey died 22 Oct 1837.

Betty died 9 Dec 1841, leaving children Hannah Higgins, Eli, Abigail Gilbert, and Jesse.
