From the Canada Census of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, taken on 1 June 1916, Lizzie Wiebe lived with her mother, father, and siblings at Springfield, Manitoba, Canada. The family at the time consisted of:
Elizabeth Toews Thiessen was born on October 15, 1908, to Jacob and Anna Wiebe at Greenland, Manitoba. She passed away peacefully at Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, Manitoba, on January 28, 1997. She was eighty-eight years of age. At the age of sixteen she accepted Jesus as Lord and was converted. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on May 9, 1925. She embraced this faith to the end.
On March 24, 1929, she was married to Martin C. Toews of Greenland, Manitoba. To this union were born eight daughters and three sons. They were married twenty-seven years when Father passed away on March 17, 1957.
On March 27, 1960, Mother married John B. Thiessen of Linden, Alberta. They lived in Greenland and Kleefeld, Manitoba, until he passed away on April 28, 1973. After this Mother moved to Greenland, Manitoba, where she lived until she moved to the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, Manitoba, in December of 1994.
In her last years Mother was unable to speak and communicated by writing and with her beautiful smile. She enjoyed all the company she received in her home and later at the Maplewood Manor. In her last years at Greenland, Manitoba, Mother was able to remain in her own home with the help of her daughter Alice, who lived with her, as well as with the help of the rest of the family.
She is survived by her daughters: Frances (Abe Unger); Alice Toews; Anne Fullerton; Elizabeth (Wayne Jones); Norma Toews (George Ivasevic); Josephine Toews; Janet Toews; her sons: Donald (Elsie); Harry (Irene); and Alvin (Marlene); twenty-three grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren; two brothers: George Wiebe; and Ben and Margaret Wiebe; two sisters: Caroline Giesbrecht; and Agnes and John Penner; and two sisters-in-law: Lottie Wiebe; and Linda Wiebe.
She is also survived by the Thiessen family: Abe (Barbara); Elmer (Norma); Roy (Jean); Norma (John) Huchala; Doreen (Carl) Dick; Joyce Murdoch; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mother was predeceased by one infant daughter, one infant son, both husbands, four sisters, four brothers, and one infant grandson.
Funeral services were held on February 1, 1997, at the Greenland Mennonite Church, Ste. Anne, Manitoba. Ministers Jesse Friesen and Cornie Wiebe were in charge. Burial was in the Greenland Church Cemetery.
