Martin Cornelius Toews

My loving husband, our father and grandfather, Martin Cornelius Toews, was born on July 12, 1901 at Greenland, Manitoba, and went to be with the Lord on March 17, 1957 in our home at Greenland, at the age of 55 years, 8 months and 5 days.
He was the son of Cornelius and Aganetha Toews, and grew to manhood in the home of his parents at Greenland.
He felt his lost condition and need of a personal Saviour in 1927 and upon confession of his faith was baptized and became a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on March 30, 1927.
On March 24, 1929 he joined with me Elizabeth Toews (nee Wiebe) in holy matrimony, sharing joys and sorrows for 28 years, less 7 days.
We made our home at Greenland where we still live and from where he passed to a better home in heaven.
He had his good as well as his evil days, but always found peace and joy in the Lord. He would have liked to have stayed with his loved ones, nevertheless when his sufferings became so great he longed to be taken home. A couple of years ago father's health started to fail. He sought medical aid and had a major operation about a year ago. This gave him temporary relief to the extent that he would perform his daily duties during the summer. However, since Dec. 14, he was bedfast and realizing that human help was of little avail he resigned himself to the will of his Creator. He often asked for prayer in his behalf and gently passed on to the great reward. One infant daughter preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Elizabeth; 3 sons-Donald, Harry and Alvin; 7 daughters-Frances (Mrs. Abe Unger), Alice, Anne, Elizabeth, Norma, Josephine and Janet; 1 son-in-law Mr. Abe Unger; 1 grandchild; 9 brothers and 5 sisters.

Funeral services were held at the Greenland Church, with Min. Clifford Mastre speaking from 2 Cor. 5:1-4, 10; Psalm 39:4, 5; Heb. 4:9.
