About Elizabeth (Betsey) McClure
GEDCOM Note
The following information was taken from "Reminiscences of Rachel Handley
Elliott” written by Frances Dwinnell Elliott for her children.
Rachel Handley
Elliott was the grandmother of Frances Dwinnell Elliott whose father was
Perry Elliott.
Thomas Johnson was bom in Ireland. He had three brothers, John, James
and Ury and a sister Katherine. Thomas Johnson’s children were John, Thomas,Jane and probably others.
Thomas Johnson s daughter Jane married a Handley. They had a son, Samuel
Handley who had three daughters, Sally, Betsey (Elizabeth), and Rachel. Samuel
Handley drowned in the Ohio River when Rachel was one year old. A few
years before Samuel Handley was drowned he had moved from Kentucky to
Pennsylvania. Rachel was bom January 9, 1789 in Pennsylvania. Presumably
Sally and Elizabeth were also bom in Pennsylvania. The Widow Handley,
mother of the three girls, married Thomas Baird about 1790 or 1791 in Ken
tucky. She had moved back to Kentucky.
Sally Handley married James Threlkeld in Kentucky. The Threlkelds soon
moved to Knox Co., Indiana, as had also the Bairds. Rachel Handley married
John Elliott in Knox County in 1808.
Elizabeth (Betsy) married Thomas Mc-
Clure Jan. 18, 1810.
