One brother was with Commadore Perry in his celebrated naval victory on Lake Erie and another served in the Mexican War. She was the proud mother of five sons, four of whom served honorably in the CSA- three in the famous "Stonewall Brigade". Family tradition recounts that she carried papers hidden in her skirts to her sons in service.
