About Elizabeth Norris
John Norris (c.1683) - c (1740) m. (Aug. 1685) Elizabeth Parsons/Capell (1666/67) - (c Nov. 1714) m. (Apr. 1716) Mary Newman Note a Benjamin Capell married Elizabeth's mother about the time Elizabeth married John. Benjamin would be Elizabeth's step-father, thus the reason one source lists John's first wife as Elizabeth Capell.
The name of Elizabeth Parsons, as correctly used by both Davis and Josserand, is the same person named by Myers as Elizabeth Capell. Elizabeth's mother (Isabel) married 1st. Thomas Parsons and had six daughters. After Thomas died in 1711, (Isabel) married Benjamin Capell. Added note as of 5 Oct 1999 -

The parentage of Elizabeth, wife of John Norris, cannot be proved. A careful examination of the land records of Anne Arundel County reveals that the Parsons, Holland, Parrish, Price, Capell and Norris families lived near each other in the Herring Bay area of Anne Arundel County. They often witnessed each other’s wills and land transactions. Elizabeth is placed as the wife of John Norris for the following reasons:
Thomas Parsons’ will mentions his daughter Elizabeth and leaves her one shilling.[1] She has a legacy less than any of her sisters who all received lands or livestock. Perhaps Elizabeth had done something to anger her father, or he had already settled some goods on her. She is called Elizabeth Parsons in the will which seems to indicate she was not married when it was written 10 OCT 1683. It is possible Thomas Parsons was a Quaker like the Holland and Price families. Maybe Elizabeth had given up the Quaker religion. Since John and Elizabeth had their children baptized in the Anglican Church, Norris was definitely not a Quaker.
There is definite proof that Isabell Parsons, the sister of Elizabeth, married Anthony Holland because it is stated in Holland’s will. The will of Benjamin Capell reveals a close relationship between him and the Norris and Holland families. He leaves legacies to Elizabeth Norris and Benjamin Norris.
A final connection is the land tract called St. Thomas’s Neck. John Norris purchased this tract from Ralph Bazill in 1685, but the land was originally patented by Thomas Parsons in 1664. The land records of Anne Arundel Co. were destroyed in 1704 when the court house burned down. There is no way of knowing how Ralph Bazill gained title to this land, but the sale proves John Norris was living close to the Parsons family.[2]
