Elizabeth Storke was born about 1687 in Virginia and her parents were Behethland (Gilson) and Nehemiah Storke . [1]
By 28 Jan 1701/02 Elizabeth Storke had first married to Thomas Newton [2] and their children included ...
Thomas Newton died in 1727 and in 1728 Elizabeth married secondly to Col. Samuel Oldham. [4]
She died in April 1759 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. The date of Elizabeth's death is inscribed on her headstone which is much decayed but reads:
"Beneath this stone are deposited the Remains of Mrs. Elizabeth Oldham ...
Departed this Life on the ... Day of April, 1759, in the 72nd year of her Age." [6]
The above mentioned tombs at Wilmington were, doubtless, loving tributes paid by the first Willoughby Newton, of Westmoreland, to his wife and his mother. Mrs. Elizabeth Oldham was the daughter of Nehemiah Starke, of Washinton Parish, and stepdaughter of Major Andrew Gilson, who married Behethland Dade. She married, first, Capt. Thomas Newton (son of the emigrant John, "master mariner"), and after his death, in 1728, she married again, Col. Samuel Oldham. In a deed (September 28, 1728) conveying her part of land granted by patent to her mother Gilson, she styles Willoughby Newton "my son and heire."
