About Elizabeth Palmer
In a letter to “The Gentleman’s Magazine” of 1791 reads “On a very heavy and ill-executed mural monument on the north side of the alter in the chancel of Ashover:-
"M.S. Hic jacente propinquo OBADIAH BOURNE, A.M, Patronus et Rector fidelis.
I’ve spent ages trying to translate this into English and this is the best I could do:-
Those near approach Obadiah Bourne, A.M. Faithful Patron and Rector. And Elizabeth his wife who is not without merit and charisma being full of years died April in the year 1710 aged 64. The one who was subject to him died January 19 aged about 81. This just memorial is therefore on account of this.
